Wayback Jim Lipson

Music on the Mountain Performance
Sunday, June 7, 2026 | 1:00–4:00 PM

Join us for a dynamic afternoon with Wayback Jim Lipson, a longtime champion of Tucson’s live music scene and co-founder of the beloved Wayback Machine.

Jim has been a driving force in Southern Arizona music since relocating from the East Coast in 1983. From launching Tucson Weekly’s first local music column in the mid-1980s to serving as a disc jockey, community radio board member (91.3 KXCI), and volunteer advocate for local musicians, Jim has spent decades promoting and preserving the region’s rich musical culture.

But Jim didn’t just write about the music—he stepped onto the bandstand and became part of it. Over the years he has performed with an array of Tucson bands spanning reggae, blues, rock, bluegrass, jazz, and funk. His genre-hopping musical journey eventually led to the founding of the Wayback Machine in 1999, a group known for its rotating special guests and “different band every night” spirit.

As a percussionist and master collaborator, Jim brings versatility, deep musical knowledge, and a relaxed, inviting presence to every performance. Expect an eclectic blend of blues, rock, reggae, honky-tonk, and beyond—delivered with seasoned musicianship and a genuine love for live music.

Join us Sunday, June 7 from 1–4 PM for an afternoon shaped by decades of Tucson music history and the joyful unpredictability that defines Wayback Jim’s sound.
