Best Hikes Around Mount Lemmon
Mount Lemmon is laced with trails that range from gentle, family-friendly walks to more adventurous climbs into the high country. Many of the best hikes begin right near the Lodge, so you won’t need to drive far to find yourself immersed in alpine beauty. Please note: a Coronado National Forest pass (or National Parks pass) is often required for trailhead parking.
Marshall Gulch Trail (Trailhead less than 1 mile)
This shaded trail begins at the Marshall Gulch Picnic Area, just down the road from the Lodge. Following a creek bed through tall pines and aspen groves, the 1.2-mile path is a local favorite and can easily connect to other trails for a longer adventure.
Aspen Trail (Trailhead less than 1 mile)
Sharing a trailhead with Marshall Gulch, the Aspen Trail climbs higher into the forest and offers stunning overlooks of the Tucson valley below. At about 2.5 miles, it’s moderately challenging and particularly beautiful in autumn when the aspens turn gold.
Meadow Trail (Near Mount Lemmon Ski Valley, ~2 miles)
This gentle trail winds through high alpine meadows and offers wide-open views of the surrounding mountains. In summer, the meadows bloom with wildflowers, while winter provides crisp, snowy scenery. It’s a great choice for an easy hike with big payoffs.
Lemmon Rock Lookout Trail (Trailhead ~3 miles)
Starting near the top of Mount Lemmon, this more strenuous trail leads down to Lemmon Rock Lookout, a historic fire lookout tower. The descent offers sweeping views into the Catalina Mountains, and while the return climb is steep, the scenery makes it worthwhile.
Cap Rock Trail (Trailhead less than 1 mile)
A short but rewarding loop, Cap Rock Trail is perfect if you’re short on time but still want to immerse yourself in Mount Lemmon’s natural beauty. Towering rock formations and quiet forest groves make this a favorite quick stroll near the summit.
Whether you’re seeking a casual walk under aspen trees or a challenging trek to panoramic overlooks, Mount Lemmon’s trails offer something for every hiker—all just steps from your stay at the Lodge.
